Munich Conference | Germany wanted more land so France and others agree to appease Hitler as long as he doesn’t try to obtain more land. This was seen as a peacekeeping agreement that gave Germany the Sudetenland. |
Kristallnacht | It was called the Night of the Broken glass. The uprising started when a Jew murdered a German embassy official. Shards of shattered glass lined the German streets from Synagogues, Jewish homes, Jewish owned businesses. |

Pearl Harbor | Japan attacked the US because the US had placed an embargo on oil and scrap iron that Japan needed. The United States declared war on Japan on December 8. |
Operation Barbarossa | Code name for the invasion of Germany of the Invasion of Russia. Hitler wanted to break the Nazi Soviet Pact and he invaded Russia to get their natural resources. Russia couldn’t hold off the attack due to the loss of soldiers from the Great Purge. |
Battle of Midway | Japan wanted to take the island of Midway, in the middle of the Pacific. They knew that Americans used it for the refuelling of planes and ships when fighting Japan. U.S. officers already knew their plans to take the island and came prepared. The Bataan Death March | 76,000 American-Filipino Soldiers marched to prisoner of war camps. The total number of those who died is unknown but, thousands died from disease, and between 3,000 and 10,000 Allied soldiers were killed by their captors. |
Battle of Britain | The German’s started to bomb Britain ports, ships, and airfields. Then the Germans moved towards London and continued Daily bombardment for 52 days. Referred to by Germany as Operation Sea Lion |
D-Day | Allies invade Normandy in in 1944. Led by General D.Eisenhower. 23,000 American and British soldiers parachuted into Normandy. 130,000 allied troops crossed the English channel in boats from English bases. By the end of the day the Allied forces had control of all 5 beaches. |
The Manhattan Project | was created by scientists to harness atomic power and use it as a weapon. August 6, 1945, atomic bomb code named “Little Boy” is dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. August 9,1945, atomic bomb code named “Fat Man” is dropped on Nagasaki, Japan. |
Yalta Conference | Attended by the “Big Three”. The Big Three consisted of Roosevelt from the US, Stalin from Russia, and Churchill from Great Britain. The reason for the conference was to discuss what they were going to do to Germany. |
The Great Purge | Joseph Stallin purged Russia and killed opposition to his view and government of communism. He killed most of the military and a tremendous number of people. |
