| Bond | A certificate that promises to repay money loaned plus interest. Speculators made a huge profit when buying these. |
| Alexander Hamilton | Washington's Secretary of Treasury planned to create a national bank based on loose interpretation of the Constitution. |
| John Jay | George Washington's choice for the first Supreme Court Justice. |
| James Madison | This person did not like Hamilton's plan to pay off the national debt. |
| Thomas Jefferson | Leader of the Republican Party and Secretary of State under Washington. |
| John Adams | The second President of the United States and a member of the Federalist party. |
| Judiciary Act | This organized the Supreme Court and set up district courts and circuit courts across the country. |
| National debt compromise | Southerners agreed to Hamilton's plan if the capital of the United States was moved to the South. |
| The Whiskey Rebellion | This was a harsh reaction to a tax on liquor which was quickly put down by Washington's militia. |
| Neutrality Proclamation | Washington's plan to stay out of a war between Great Britain and France. This would set a precedent for future presidents. |
| Interpretation of the Constitution | Hamilton believed in loose interpretation, whereas Jefferson believed in reading the Constitution word for word(strictly). |
| Election of 1796 | John Adams a Federalist was elected President and Jefferson a Republican became Vice President. The process of electing a President changed after this election. |
| XYZ Affair | France began seizing U.S. ships in response to Jay's treaty. John Adams refused to go to war with France, but built up the U.S. Navy in the meantime. |

| United States Capital | Originally in New York City, Hamilton made a deal with James Madison to move the capital to the south. Moved to Philadelphia in the meantime. |
