| Folklore | Can involve songs, stories, myths, and proverbs of a people or "folk" and is handed down by generation or by word of mouth |
| Historical Fiction | A story that will involve fictional characters and events that take place in a historical setting |
| Horror | This fiction has events that often evoke a feeling of fear or dread in both the characters and the reader. |
| Humor | Fiction full of fun, comedy and excitement, written to entertain you |
| Legend | A story that is sometimes about a folk hero. It has some fact and some imagination |
| Mystery | This is a fiction involving a solution of a crime or the discovering of clues and secrets |
| Mythology | Is like a legend or written in narrative style, and is often historical. Usually has various gods involved |
| Poetry | Is written in verse and/or rhymes and imagination |
| Science Fiction | A story with imaginary and often futuristic elements or can take place on other planets. Usually involves scientific innovations |
| Tall Tale | Can be a humorous story that is too far fetched to be true. Often includes exaggeration and/or hyperbole |
