| Digits | the symbols used to show numbers: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. There are 10 digits. |
| Whole numbers | numbers that are whole, not parts (not fractions/decimals). 0,1,2,3,etc. are whole numbers. |
| Base-ten numerals | numeral system that has ten as its base. Each place value is ten times the previous place value. |
| Word/name form | a way to show a number using words. Example: one hundred fourteen. |
| Expanded form | a way to write a number that shows the place value of each digit. Example: 9,000 + 300 + 20 + 7 is the expanded form of 9,327 |
| Greater than | The relationship of one number being farther to the right on a number line than another number. Example: 7 > 3 |
| Less than | The relationship of one number being farther to the left on a number line than another number. Example: 3 < 7 |
| Standard form | A way to write a number that shows only its digits. Example: 9,325 |
| Place Value | The value given to the place a digit has in a number. Example: In 6,928 the place value of the digit 9 is hundreds. |
| Period | a group of 3 digits in a number separated by a comma. Example: In 2,345 the 3,4,5 are in the ones period. |
