Simple Machines | these allow us to move things more easily by magnifying our efforts |
Axle | a rod on which wheels rotate |
Wheel | considered a simple machine, must rotate on a rod called an axle |
Fulcrum | wheel & axle move around this fixed turning point |
Turning Power | what you get when you turn the wheel further than you need to |
Simple Machines | most basic of tools, spread the work out decreasing the amount of force needed to do work |
Effort Force | your pull or push |
Resistance Force | exerted by the weight of the load |
Pulley | a wheel fixed to a support - works by changing the direction of the effort force and letting you use your body's weight to support that force |
Single Pulley | has a mechnaical advantage of 1 - where effort force and resistance force are the same |
Double Pulley | one pulley attached to the load and one pulley attached to a fixed support - the effort force is 1/2 the resistance force |
