Use these activities to learn academic vocabulary words.

| purpose | a result that is desired, an intention, the "why" you are writing a piece |
| topic | the subject of a writing piece, a category or general area of interest |
| paragraph | a passage in text that is about a different subject from the preceding text, marked by commencing on a new line, the first line is often indented |
| dangling modifier | a word or clause that is misplaced in the sentence, possibly causing confusion about the intended meaning |
| detail | attention to or treatment of a subject using minute (small) parts, something easily overlooked |
| description | a sketch or account of anything in words |
| descriptive | characterized by or containing description, serving to describe, giving more information about another word |
