| Adware | Software that automatically displays or downloads advertisements. |

| Minimize Button | The first small box at the right of the title bar used to temporarily close the window, replacing it as a button on the taskbar. |
| Restore Button | You can use this button to reduce or enlarge the window. |
| Microprocessor Chip | Often called the "brain" of the computer as this is where calculations and logical operations are performed; also referred to as the Central Processing Unit (CPU). |
| Mouse Pointer | Usually shown as an arrow on the screen that follows the movement of the mouse on the screen, regardless of the pointing device used, e.g. mouse or touchpad. |
| Optical Drive | Designed to read a flat, circular disc such as a CD or DVD; data can be written to the disc using a laser to read or write the data. |
| Pinned Programs | An area of the Start Menu where frequently used programs can be ‘pinned’ to enable easy access to programs. |
| Print | The process of sending a file to the printer, complete with printer instructions for the format and type of text. |
| Recycle Bin | A temporary storage area for deleted files. Deleted files remain in the Recycle Bin until the deleted files are restored or the Recycle Bin is emptied. |
| Save | The process of storing or copying the information in the memory to a disk. If you turn the computer off without saving to a disk, you lose all the information you have entered in the memory. |
| Screen Saver | If selected, displays a picture that will appear when you do not use the mouse or keyboard for a specified period of time. |
| Scroll Bars | Scroll bars automatically appear in a window if the contents are not entirely visible. A vertical or horizontal scroll bar may appear. |
| Shortcut | A shortcut is a quick way to start a program or open a file or folder without having to go to its permanent location. Shortcuts are especially useful for programs, files, and folders you use frequently. |
