| Adobe Fireworks | Known as FW for short, it’s a bitmap and vector graphics editor. It was originally developed by Macromedia. |
| TCP- (Transmission Control Protocol) | The protocol within TCP/IP that is responsible for establishing a data connection between two hosts and breaking data into packets. |
| Upstream speed | The rate at which data is transmitted from your home computer to the Internet |
| Bitmap Graphic | An image, such as a digital photo, that is stored as a grid work of colored dots. |
| Megapixel | One million pixels |
| Monochrome Bitmap | A bitmap image that contains only the colors black and white. |
| Pixilated | Describes the effect of increasing the size and thus decreasing the quality of the image. |
| Color Palette | The selection of colors used in a graphic. |
| Image Compression | Any technique that is used to reduce the size of a file that holds a graphic. |
| Lossless Compression | A compression technique that is able to reconstitute all of the data in the original file, hence “lossless” means that this compression technique does not lose data. |
| Lossy Compression | Any data compression technique in which some of the data is sacrificed to obtain more compression. |
| JPEG- (Joint Photographic Experts Group) | A format that used lossy compression to store bitmap images. |
| GIF- (Graphics interchange format) | A bitmap graphics file format, popularized by CompuServe, for use on the Web |
