Living Environment Unit 4 Reproduction & Development Test Review Games

AB
Sexual Reproductionmakes offspring that have variety (are different from their parents and each other.
Gametesare made by meiosis and have half the genetic infromation of a body cell. They are "n" instead of "2n"
Estrogen and Progesteroneare female hormones that influence that reproductive cycle and female organs
Jobs of Meiosismakes sperm and eggs; gives a variety in sexual reproduction; produces 4 sperm in males
FertilizationThe joining of the sperm and egg
Rapid production of cellsis due to mitosis
When does crossing over occur?occurs during Meiosis only and gives new gene combinations in the offspring.
Fertilization in femalesoccurs in the oviduct-Development occurs in the Uterus.
Where do Gametes(sext cells; sperm and eggs) develop in males? females?males- in the testes; females-in the ovaries
What is a Zygote?a fertilized egg. It grows into an embryo by Mitosis.
What happens to an egg once it is fertilized?the zygote will divide by mitosis.
What happens to the cells that result from the fertilized egg? They will eventually being to differentiate (become specific kinds of tissues) and that tissue will eventually become specific organs.
What do the testes produce for sexual reproduction?sperm
What do ovaries produce for sexual reproduction?eggs
What does the uterus provide?a location for the development of the fetus
Where does fertilization in humans occur?in the oviduct
What kind of copies of the cells does Mitosis make?Mitosis makes EXACT copies of cells.
What are the female hormones that regulate the reproductive cycle?estrogen and progesterone
The placentais essential for the normal development of the fetus because it allows good stuff (nutrients, oxygen, etc.) to diffuse from the mother to the fetus and bad things (waste) to diffuse from the embryo to the mother
What doe Reproductive hormones affectThey only affect certain organs that have the proper receptormolecules for that hormone. If other cells lack these specific receptor molecules, they are not affected by the hormone.
