Parallel Lines and Transversals

Vocabulary terms relating to the angles formed by a transversal that cuts across two parallel lines.

AB
TransversalA line that crosses at least two other lines.
Adjacent AnglesTwo angles in the same plane that share a common vertex and a common side, but have no common interior points.
Supplementary AnglesA pair of angles whose measues add up to 180 degrees.
Complementary AnglesTwo angles whose measures add up to 90 degrees.
Exterior AnglesAngles outside of parallel lines.
Interior AnglesAngles inside of parallel lines.
Corresponding AnglesPairs of angles in similar positions
Alternate Interior AnglesPairs of interior angles on the opposite sides of a transversal.
Alternate Exterior AnglesPairs of exterior angles on the opposite sides of a transversal.
Parallel LinessLines that do not intersect, or have any points in common, but are in the same plane.
Linear PairAdjacent, supplementary angles.
Right AngleAn angle with a measure of 90 degrees.
Obtuse AngleAn angle with a measure of more than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees..
Acute AngleAn angle with a measure of less than 90 degrees.
Straight AngleAn angle with with a meaure of 180 degrees.
Reflex AngleAn angle with a measure greater than 180 degrees and less than 360 degrees.
