| Caption | A label used to identify parts of an illustration; call-out |
| Dropped Cap | An enlarged character at the beginning of a paragraph |
| Running headlines and footers | Text that repeats at the top or botton of a document |
| Jumpline | Tells the reader what page to find the rest of an article |
| Pull Quote | A selection of an article that is copied in larger font and set aside to grab the reader's attention |
| Rules | Lines around articles or graphics used to organize content |
| Sidebar | A smaller, self-contained story inside a larger one that may be related |
| Text box | Container for text |
| Watermark | A semitransparent image in the background of printed material |
| Endmark | A symbol that indicates the end of an article |
| Reverse text | Light text on a dark background |
| Nameplate | A banner on the front of a publilcation that identifies it and can include a logo and motto |
| Masthead | Contains the name of publications and authors, usually on the second and remaining pages |
| Kicker | Words positioned above a headline as a leader or teaser |
| Byline | Name of author or photographer; usually just above headline, below photograph or just below article |
| Deck | Placed between a headline and article ; provides segue between headline and body |
| Table of Contents | Lists the articles in a publication and the pages on which to find them |
| Body | The bulk of the contents of a publication that contains paragraphs of text |
