ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadienne Styrene), | Plastic pipe used for water, drains, waste, and venting. |
| ACR (Air-Conditioning Refrigeration) | tubing..air-conditioning and refrigeration tubing that is very clean, dry, and normally charge with dry nitrogen. The tubing is sealed at the ends to contain the nitrogen. |
Tubing, | Pipe with a thin wall used to carry fluids. |
Air Acetylene, | A mixture of air and acetlene gas that when ignited is used for soldering, brazing, and other applications. |
Brazing, | High-temperature (above 800°F) melting of a filler metal for the joining of two metals. |
Burr, | Excess material squeezed into the end of tubing or pipe after a cut has been made. This burr must be removed. |
Butane, | gas...A liquiefied petroleum gas burned for heat. |
Capillary Attraction, _copy.jpg) | The attraction of a liquid material between two pieces of material such as two pieces of copper or copper brass. For example, in a joint made up of copper tubing and a brass fitting, the solder filler material has a greater attraction to the copper and brass than to itslf and is drawn into the space between them. |
CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride), | Plastic pipe similar to PVC except that it can be used with temperatures up to 180°F at 100 psig. |
Double Flare Joint, | A connection used on copper, aluminum, or steel tubing that folds tubing wall to a double thickness. |
Flux, | A substance applied to soldered and brazed connections to prevent oxidation during the heating process. |
Line Sets, | A term used for tubbing sets furnished by the manufacturer. |
Mapp Gas, | A composite gas similar to propane that may be used with air. |
National Pipe Taper (NPT), | The standard designation for a standard tapered pipe thread. |
PE (Polyethylene), | Plastic pipe used for water, gas, and irrigation systems. |
Propane, | an LP (liquified petroleum) gas used for heat. |
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) Reamer, | Plastic pipe used in the pressure applications for water and gas as well as for sewage and certain industrial applications. |
Soldering, | Fastening two base metas together by using a third, filler metal that melts at a temperature below 800°F. |
Swaged Joint, | The joining of two pieces of copper tubing by expanding or stretching the end of one piece of tubing to fit over the other piece. |
Die Threader, | A tool used to make an external thread such as on the end of a piece of pipe. |
Tubing Insulation, | is thermal or acoustic (sound) insulation used on pipework. |
