Alamo,  | Famous battle where many Texans were killed by the Mexican Army. Used by the Texans as motivation to win their independence. |
Mexican War,  | War over Texas and Manifest Destiny that created problems over slavery in the new lands |
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo/Mexican Cession,  | Treaty ended the War with Mexico. The Cession gave the United States New Mexico and California. Manifest Destiny was achieved.,  |
Wilmot Proviso,  | Plan that would outlaw slavery in all new lands won from Mexico. Passed the House (based on population) but failed in the Senate (the South was equal there). |
Free Soil Party,  | Political Party created during the Mexican War that wanted to outlaw slavery in all new lands. |
California Gold Rush,  | Gold was discovered, many people moved to find it, and they wanted to be a free state causing a huge debate over slavery |
annex,  | To add. The United states annexed Texas as a new slave state. This caused the Mexican War and arguments over slavery. |
