| Daoism | "effortlessness," "nonstriving," not strong influence in China, not public philosophy, not anarchism (no destruction of gov't), reputes Legalism, having strict punishments and rewards triggers revolt, emphasis on teaching--people will follow if you teach. |
| Confucianism | influences China, Confucius--like Socrates, propriety, show reverence, extreme emphasis on education, virtue, morally good, ethical--do b/c you want to. |
| Legalism | influences China, punishment/rewards according to law (follow law=reward), in order for people to act properly, must be strong strict central authority to keep people in line, can bring resentment b/c "not a lot of fun." |
