| note cards | Written on index cards, it is one or two sentences on a single idea. Information includes the notes, followed by the page number in which the information can be found, the source number, and a slug. |
| plagiarism | The act of intentionally or unintentionally presenting work done by someone else as though it were your own. Penalitie include a failing grade, loss of credit in the course, or expulsion from the school. |
| primary sources | Original texts, documents, interviews, speeches, autobiographies, or letters. It does not include someone's comments on the above information. |
| research project | A written report that presents the results of a focused, in-depth study of a specific topic. The writer chooses a topic, gathers information about the topic from several sources, and then presents that information in an organized way. |
| secondary sources | Not original texts, rather someone's comments. It can include biographies. |
| source cards | They serve three purposes: it enables you to find the source again; it enables you to prepare documentation for your paper; and it enables you to prepare the Works Cited list that will appear at the end of the report. It includes the source number, the author, the title of the source, the city in which it was published, the publisher, the date published, the date and place in which you found it. |
| sources | A person or document that supplies information pertaining to a specific topic. |
| subject | A broad area of interest such as World War II or the Holocaust. |
| topic | A narrowed subject that can be comfortably researchced in a give amount of time. |
