| trade winds | warm, steady breezes that blow almost continuously 30 degrees north and south of the equator |
| prevailing westerlies | strong steady winds blowing from high pressure area in horse latitude towards the poles |
| polar easterlies | often very weak and irregular, cold winds that can cause weather changes in the US |
| jet stream | narrow belt of strong, high speed winds, high pressure air flowing west to east |
| low pressure | warm air rising |
| high pressure | cool air sinking |
| brings stormy weather | low pressure |
| brings sunny weather | high pressure |
