10° - CHEMISTRY VOCABULARY No.2
This vocabulary is related to the atom, neutrons, protons and isotopes.
|
| A | B |
| atom | the smallest component of an element having the chemical properties of the element |
| electron | an elementary particle that is a fundamental constituent of matter, having a negative charge of 1.602 × 10 −19 coulombs, a mass of 9.108 × 10 −31 kilograms, and spin of ½ |
| ionization | the formation of ions as a result of a chemical reaction, high temperature, electrical discharge, particle collisions, or radiation |
| charge | the total amount of electricity stored |
| wavelengths | the distance, measured in the direction of propagation of a wave, between two successive points in the wave that are characterized by the same phase of oscillation. |
| frequencies | the number of cycles or completed alternations per unit time of a wave or oscillation. |
| orbit | the path traced by an electron revolving around the nucleus of an atom. |
| particle | one of the extremely small constituents of matter, as an atom or nucleus. |
| neutron | an elementary particle having no charge, mass slightly greater than that of a proton, and spin of ½ |
| proton | a positively charged elementary particle that is a fundamental constituent of all atomic nuclei. |
| isotopes | any of two or more forms of a chemical element, having the same number of protons in the nucleus, or the same atomic number, but having different numbers of neutrons in the nucleus, or different atomic weights. |
