Hardware | Any part of the computer that you can see or touch. The monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse, and printers are all examples of computer hardware. |

Server | A computer or device on a network that manages network resources. |
Mainframe | A very large type of computer system that can be used by many people at the same time. They are used by the government, universities, and major industries. |
Minicomputer | This is a computer system that is smaller and less expensive than a mainframe but still can be used by many users. Larger businesses use them. |
Microcomputer | A desktop computer system that is found in schools, homes, libraries, and small businesses. |
Laptop | A portable computer. |
RAM | Random Access Memory – a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly. It is temporary memory. |
ROM | Read Only Memory – computer memory on which data has been prerecorded. It is permanent memory that can only be read and cannot be erased. |
User Name | A code used by individuals, in addition to a password, that lets them access a network computer, an online service, or a bulletin board system. |
Bit | The smallest unit of information that a computer can process. |
