UseDecrease nausea and decrease symptoms of gastric stasis. Management of GERD, treatment of postop surgery.
ContraindicationsPossible GI obstruction or hemorrhage. Hx of seizures disorders, pheochromocytoma, Parkinson's disease. Use caution in OB, lactation, pedi, & geri.
Side Effectsdrowsiness, extrapyramidal reaction, restlessness, neuroleptic malignant syndrome arrhythmias, hypertension, methemoglobinemia, newtropenia, leukopenia,agranulocytosis.
Interactionsdepressions with any other a CNS depressants. (alcohol, antidepressants, anthistamines, opiod analgesics and sedative/hypotics.
DosagePO 10-15mg 30min before meals and at bedtime.
Nursing ImplicationAssess for N/V abdominal distention and after administration. Monitor for neuroleptic. Malignant sydrome(hyperthermia, muscle rigidity, altered consciouness, irregular pulse, bp, tachycardia, and diaphoresis. Administer 30min before meals.
Patient TeachingTake as prescribed if you miss dose take as prescribed. Do not double dose. May cause drowsiness. Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants. Notify MD immediately of involuntary or repetitive movement of eye, face, or limbs occur.
