French Revolution | A controversial revolution that began in 1789 when the lower class launched a violent attack on the upper classes. 17,000 people, including the King and Queen were executed during the Reign of Terror. This event caused political division in america between the REpublicans that wanted to support the French and Federalists that did not. |
Jay's Treaty | A treaty with Britain to repair relations with the country. Washington sent John Jay to London to solve problems. Terms of Jay's 1795 Treaty were: 1. America agreed to pay debts long owed to British merchants 2. Britain would return the ships it seized from AMerica 3. British troops would be withdrawn from Northwest Territory and stop providing aid to Natives there. Britain refused to recognize the American right to trade with France, and would not stop impressment of American sailors |

XYZ affair | In 1793 President Adams sent a three person mission to France in an attempt to repair relations with the country and to stop them from attacking the US ships.
