A&P study guide 3--questions 20--24(and PP) - (copy)

AB
A chemical reaction occurs during the formation or breaking of ______ ______.chemical bonds.
Chemical reactions can be influenced by: ______,______,_____temperature concentration of reactants and products catalysts
Energy -the power to do work
Energy -the power to do work
Work -a change in mass or distance
Energy exists in 2 forms What are they?Potential and kinetic
Potential energystored energy
Kinetic energyenergy of motion
Chemical energy- potential energy stored in chemical bonds. ATP
Electrical energy– movement of charged particles
Mechanical energy –moving matter
Radiant energy –electromagnetic (energy in waves)
HydrolysisHydrolysis is defined as a chemical reaction where something reacts with water and is changed into a new substance.-----A—B—C—D—E + H2O -->A—B—C—H + HO—D—E
A—B—C—D—E + H2O -->A—B—C—H + HO—D—EHydrolysis
Dehydration synthesis (condensation):A chemical reaction that builds up molecules by losing water molecules.
A—B—C—H + HO—D—E -->A—B—C—D—E + H2ODehydration synthesis (condensation)
Activation energygets a chemical reaction in a cell started. Chemical reactions in cells cannot start without help
Enzymes:proteins that lower the activation energy(takes less energy to perform reaction)) of a reaction
Exergonic reactions:(def of PP)produce more energy than they use--
Endergonic reactions:(def of PP): use more energy than they produce
Exergonic reactions-explainationExergonic reactions are chemical reactions that release energy in the form of heat. Typically, this energy is released when bonds are broken. More specifically, in humans, these reactions are called catabolic, which means that the molecules are being broken down into smaller components. By breaking these bonds, systems (such as the human body ) can receive the energy need to perform its function(s).
Endergonic reactions-explainationAn endergonic reaction is a reaction that requires energy to be absorbed in order for it to take place. Photosynthesis is used by all plants to convert light energy into a form of chemical energy that can be used to fuel their life processes.But plants cannot complete the process without the input of light energy. This makes photosynthesis an endergonic reaction.
