| Cultural Trait | an idea or way of doing things that is common in a certain culture. These include language, laws, religion, values, food, clothing, and many other customs. |
| Culture | the beliefs, customs, practices, and behaviors of a particular nation or group of people. |
| Culture Regions | an area in which a single culture or cultural trait is dominant. Example: In Canada, French Canadian culture dominates much of the province of Quebec. |
| Family | the most basic unit of any society. Two or more people who are closely related by birth, marriage, or adoption. |
| Extended Family | family that includes parents, children, and other family members such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. |
| Nuclear Family | a family that consists of parents and their children. |
| Norm | a behavior that is considered normal in a particular society. Example: farming is normal in the midwest and fishing is normal in coastal areas |
| Social Structure | a pattern of organized relationships among groups of people within a society |
| Cultural Landscapes | Human activities that create geographic areas that have been shaped by people. It is how people meet their basic needs. Ex: People living in a desert know how to find water |
| Society | a group of humans with a shared culture who have organized themselves to meet their basic needs. |
