A | B |
Cells | The basic unit of structure and function of all living things. |
Organelles | Tiny cell structures that carry out specific functions within the cell. "Little Organs" |
Cell Theory | A widely accepted explanation of the relationship between cells and living things. |
Cell Wall | Rigid layer of nonliving material that surrounds the cell membrane of plants. (plants ONLY!) |
Cell Membrane | Protects and regulates what substances enter and leave the cell. (Selectively Permeable) |
Nucleus | Directs all the activities of the cell. (Control Center of the Cell) |
Chromosomes | Rod-shaped structures that contains DNA and passes on genetic information to new cells. (X) |
Cytoplasm | Clear, thick, jelly-like substance located between the nucleus and the cell membrane. |
Mitochondria | Powerhouse of the cell. |
Vacuole | Storage site for water, food, enzymes and other materials. |
Chloroplasts | Organelle that captures energy from the sun and uses it to produce food for the plant during photosynthesis. (Plants ONLY!) |
Prokaryotic Cell | Single celled organisms that have no nucleus or membrane bound organelles. |
Eukaryotic Cell | Multicellular organisms that have a true nucleus and organelles enclosed in a membrane. |
