7th science review question pool (2015-2016)

These are the questions that I will continue to place on formative and summative assessments during the year. These questions represent the basic knowledge included in the state standards for science. The standard is given at the end of the question. The question pool will grow through the year.

AB
the 3 parts of the cell theory(1.a)1) all living things are made of cells 2) the cell is the basic unit of living things 3) all cells come from other living cells
prokaryotic cellsmaller, more primitive cells with a nucleus or other organelles except for ribosomes. Bacteria are prokaryotic.
eukaryotic cella cell with a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles; plants and animals are examples of the types of organisms made of eukaryotic cells.
differences between plant cells and animals cells (1.b)plant cells have a cell wall, chloroplasts, and a large central vacuole
What is the purpose of mitosis (1.e)part of the cell cycle in which the cell creates an identical set of chromosomes before it divides
What are the 3 stages of the cell cycle (1.e)interphase, mitosis, cytokinesis
the levels of organization in multi-cellular organisms ( 5.a, 1.f)cell, tissue, organ, organ system, organism
organelle in which the genetic information in plants and animals is stored (1c.)nucleus
In cellular respiration, the organelle that frees up energy needed by the cell. (1.d)mitochondria
In photosynthesis, the organelle in plants that captures the energy of sunlight that will be stored as food (1.d)chloroplast
What is the name of the molecule carrying genetic information found in all living things (2.e)DNA
How many copies of each gene an organism has (2.d)two copies of each gene
What are different versions of a gene for the same trait called? (2.d)alleles
What are the two types of alleles (2.d)dominant and recessive
what's a phenotype? (2.d)the characteristics of an organism you can see ( brown eyes, purple flower, etc.)
what's a genotype? (2.d)the genetic structure of an organism (BB, bb, Bb etc.)
What percentage of an organism is inherited from each parent through sexual reproduction? (2.b)1/2; 50%
What's the difference between asexual and sexual reproduction? (2.a)asexual reproduction involves one parent organisms; sexual involve two
What's an example of an organism that would use asexual reproduction? (2.a)bacteria
What's a gene? (2.c)Genes carry the information that determines your traits (say: trates), which are features or characteristics that are passed on to you — or inherited — from your parents.
What are the two products of photosynthesis? (1.d)glucose and oxygen
what are the two reactants of photosynthesis? (1.d)carbon dioxide and water
what are the two products of cellular respiration?carbon dioxide and water
what are the two reactants of cellular respiration? (1.d)glucose and oxygen
between photosynthesis and cellular respiration, which occurs in both plants and animals? ( 1.e)cellular respiration
What is the purpose of the cell cycle? (1.e)make more identical cells; repair damage to the organism
