AB
Circulatory SystemMoves blood throughout the body. Blood carries oxygen and energy to individual cells and carries waste products away from cells. (heart, veins, arteries)
Digestive SystemBreaks down food into very small parts, which can be used by the body’s cells. (mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine)
Muscular SystemContains smooth muscles, cardiac muscle, and skeletal muscles Allows your body to move (in combination with bones), your heart to beat, and various processes to be performed internally (and involuntarily).
Smooth MusclesSheets of tissue, which you have no control over. Your stomach is a smooth muscle that works to digest your food.
Cardiac MuscleYour heart. It works to pump blood throughout your body.
Skeletal MuscleYour voluntary muscles. They help you to kick a ball, lift a pencil, or even hold up your head.
Nervous SystemSends electric signals throughout the body using nerves. Messages are sent from the brain to other parts of the body and from parts of the body to the brain. The nervous system controls all other body systems. (brain, spinal column, nerves)
Respiratory SystemWe breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. (mouth and nose, trachea, lungs, diaphragm)
Skeletal SystemGives our body shape, protects vital organs, allowed us to move (in combination with muscles).
DifferentiatedThe process by which a cell becomes specialized in order to perform a specific function, as in the case of a liver cell, a blood cell, or a skin cell.
SpecializedA specialized cell is a type of cell that performs a specific function in multicellular organisms. Groups of specialized cells work together to form a issue, like a muscle, and then different tissues work together to form larger units, like an organ.
