| Side Effects | Nasal Stuffiness, Dyspnea, Shortness of Breath, Fibrosing Colonopathy, Abdominal Pain, diarrhea, nausea, cramps, orial irritation, hematuria, rash, hyperuricemia |
| Interactions | Antacids decrease effectiveness of Pancrelipase. Decreases absorption of iron. Alkaline foods destroy coating on enteric-coated products |
| Dosage | PO Adults start with 500lipase units/kg/meal. Maximum dose=2500 units/kg/meal maximum dose=2500units/kg/day or 10,000 units daily. Children 1 year and older start with 1000 units/kg/meal. Maximum dose= 2500units/kg/meal or 10,000 units daily. |
| Nursing Implications | Assess nutritional status. Monitor stools for high fat, assess for allergy to pork. May increase urine uric acid. Administer immediately before or with meals. Do not crush. Take half of normal dose with snacks. Do not mix with breast milk or formula |
| Teaching | Comply with high calorie high protein low fat diet. Notify HCP of symptoms of fibrosing Colonopaty; abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation. Notify HCP of joint pain, swelling in legs, gastric distress, rash. Notify if pregnant or breastfeeding. |
