| A | B |
| precipitation | Water that falls to the ground from the atmosphere. This includes rain, hail, sleet, and snow. |
| water cycle | The movement and exchange of water between Earth's land, atmosphere, and oceans. |
| water vapor | The gaseous form of water. |
| humid | The amount of water vapor in the atmosphere. |
| deposition | The process by which water vapor changes from a gas to a solid. |
| condensation | The process by which water vapor changes from a gas to a liquid. |
| evaporation | The process by which water changes from a liquid to an invisible gas called water vapor. |
| dew point | The atmospheric temperature at which water droplets condense, forming dew. |
| frost | Forms when water vapor in the air hits cold ground that has cooled overnight and the condensed water droplets form ice. |
| clouds | A collection of billions of tiny droplets of water or ice and dust particles visible from the ground. |
| transpiration | The release of water from plant leaves into the atmosphere. |
| subsurface runoff | Rain, snow melt, or other water that flows in underground streams, drains, or sewers. |
| surface runoff | Rain, snow melt, or other water that flows in surface streams, rivers, or canals. |
| 3 states of water | Solid, Liquid, and Gas |
| Where does water vapor come from? | Most of the water vapor in the air comes from evaporation from oceans, rivers, and lakes. |
| Why do you feel sticky and uncomfortable on a hot, humid day? | When the air is humid it means there is a lot of water vapor in the air. When the air has high levels of water vapor the sweat on your body will not be able to evaporate into the air and it will feel sticky. |
| Why do you see your breath on a cold day? | This process is called condensation. When you exhale when it's cold outside, the water vapor in your breath condenses into lots of tiny droplets of liquid water and ice that you can see in the air as a cloud. |
| What are four things that can happen once precipitation reaches the ground? | 1. It can fall directly into streams, lakes, or oceans. 2. It can fall on land. 3. It may soak into the soil. 4. It may be used by people for drinking, washing, and preparing food. |
| How do clouds form? | As warm air rises it cools to form water vapor which condenses to make clouds of tiny water droplets. |
| What percentage of the Earth's surface is covered by oceans? | Around 70% |
| What phase change occurs when a solid changes to a liquid? | Melting |
| What phase change occurs when a liquid changes into a solid? | Freezing |
| What phase change occurs when a liquid changes into a gas? | Evaporation |
| What phase change occurs when a gas changes into a liquid? | Condensation |
| What unit of measure is used for a triple beam balance? | grams |
| heat | the measure of how much energy there is in a system |
| radiation | when heat is transferred through electromagnetic waves such as light. |
| conduction | when heat is transferred by direct contact between two objects |
| convection | when heat is transferred by movement of gases and liquids |
