Cultural competencerefers to an ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds, particularly in the context of human resources, non-profit organizations, and government agencies whose employees work with persons from different cultural/ethnic backgrounds.
Cultural generativityGiving back to future generations by passing on cultural values and traditions.
Cultural humilityAn acknowledgement of one’s own barriers to true intercultural understanding.
Culture shockThe difficulties and feelings of uneasiness people have when exposed to another culture.
Delivery SystemsThe means in which services are offered and delivered to populations in need of said services.
Director of DevelopmentThe senior fundraising manager of a non-profit organization, company, or corporation.
DiscriminationTreatment or consideration based on class or category rather than individual merit; partiality or prejudice.
DiversityVaried differences in people.
EmpatheticTo be understanding or sensitive to the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of others.
EthnicityA person’s identity with a particular racial, national, or cultural group and support of that group’s customs, beliefs, and language.
EthnocentrismThe belief that a person’s own culture is the best or most natural.
Executive DirectorThe senior operating officer or manager of an organization or corporation.
