Run Batted Ina credit given to a batter when one or more runners score as a result of a base hit, a sacrifice or, when the bases are loaded, a base on balls, hit by pitch, or catcher's interference that forces in a run.
earned runa run charged to a pitcher because a base runner who scores reached base on a hit or base on balls given up by the pitcher.
earned run averagea measure of how many runs a pitcher allows over a nine inning game, calculated as: (earned runs x 9) / innings pitched.
inningone of the nine divisions of a baseball game in which each team is allowed to bat until they make three outs.
gamenine innings
extra inningsthe innings played after nine because the score is tied.
wild pitcha pitched ball that gets past a catcher and allows runners to advance, and which, in the opinion of the umpire, cannot be caught by the catcher.
passed balla pitch that gets past the catcher but which he is expected to catch.
errora play that is incorrectly made by a defensive player and that allows a batter to reach first base, a runner to advance, or a batter to extend his time at bat.
