| Blending Mode | A mode that affects the way objects on a layer interact with other layers. |
| Bloat Tool | A tool used to inflate parts of an object. |
| Blob Brush Tool | A tool used to paint a shape rather than a stroke. |
| CSS Properties Panel | A panel which displays the HTML code for a selected sliced object. |
| Character Panel | A panel that allows the user to access text formatting and customization options easily. |
| Clipping Mask | An object which allows only parts of artwork that lie within the object to be visible. |
| Color Depth | A term that defines the number of bits that are used to create each color of an image. This term is also known as bit depth. |
| Color Mode | The mode used to define which colors are used to comprise an image or composition. The two most common color modes are RGB and CMYK. |
| Color Theory | The theory surrounding colors. It is at its core the learning of the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. |
| Contrast | A term used to define contrast in art using color, design, or other subject matter that contrast or are opposite of each other. |
| Control Handles | Handles on an anchor point used to control the Bezier curve. |
| Control Panel | A software utility that contains most of the settings for personalizing a system, such as display, power management, and adding or deleting users. |

| Crop Marks | Marks that assist the user in cutting the image after printing. |

| EPS | Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) is a vector-based file format often used to save small scaled documents that can be up scaled later. |
| Effect Gallery | A gallery of effects the user can browse and preview. |
| Effects | Characteristics applied to objects, groups, or layers which can be modified. |
| Embed | A process by which a user may copy an image into Illustrator at full resolution. |
| Emphasis | A design principle used to emphasize something by using an artistic principle such as color. |
| Export | The action of saving a file in an alternate format. A file can be exported through both the Save As command and the Export command depending on the desired format. |
| Extrude & Bevel | A panel that may be used to provide depth to a 2D object to give it a 3D effect, or to control elements of a 3D object. |
| Fair Use | A part of U.S. Copyright Law which is a doctrine that indicates that excerpts of copyrighted materials may be used under certain circumstances such as news reports, teaching, and research. |
| Fill | The inside part of a shape. |
| Form | A basic principle in art that defines objects like spheres, cubes, and pyramids. They are three dimensional by nature. |
| Free Transform Tool | A tool used to rotate, resize, or distort an object. |
| GIF | Graphic interchange format (GIF) is a common image file format that has the ability to have frames used in animation. |
| Gamut | A digital art term used to refer to color, most commonly denoting a specific set of colors or a color range. |
| Global Swatch | A swatch that, when edited in one location, will change at all other locations. |
| Gradient | A design technique used to gradually transition from one color to another. |
| Gradient Swatch | A color swatch created from a gradient. |
| Graphic Style | Attributes which can be reused to quickly change the appearance of an object. |
| Illustrator Effects | A list of primarily vector-based effects. |
| Image Map | A feature which allows the user to associate an image with a web address. |
| Import | A process in which a user may bring files from other programs into Illustrator CC. |
| Intellectual Property | A work or invention which is the result of creativity that the creater has rights to by applying a patent, copyright, or trademark. |
| Isolation Mode | A mode which allows the user to go inside an object or group and edit a particular element. |
| JPEG | Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG/JPG) is a common image file format that is used for web images. It can be compressed in many ways and still maintain a good quality. |
| Kerning | Altering the distance between two characters. Kerning can make text more readable by increasing or decreasing the spacing. |
| Kuler Panel | A panel in Illustrator CC which links with the user's online Adobe Kuler account to display custom swatches. |
| Layer Stacking Order | The rule wherein objects on a layer will appear above objects on lower layers. |
| Layers | The editing/compositing areas that behave as transparent sheets on top of an image and enable the editing of specific elements of an image without affecting any other areas. |
| Leading | The space between lines of text. |
| Line | A basic component in art and geometry that is used to define shape. |
| MOV | The default video format any Apple video program will use by default. |
| MPEG | Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) is an international standard used to encode and compress video images. |
| Merge Swatch | The act of replacing all instances of one swatch with another. |
| Morphing | A process in which two or more letters are blended with each other as specified by the user. |
| Opacity | An option which controls the level of transparency. |
| Opacity Mask | A mask which controls visibility using black and white where sections masked by black are transparent and sections masked by white are opaque. |
| PDF | Portable Document Format (PDF) is a non-exclusive file format, making it both vector and raster-based. |
| PNG | Portable Network Graphics (PNG) is an image file format that is absolutely lossless, which means it will not compress or change an image from how it appears. |
| Path | A line that is made up of points that can be edited so the line is rigid or curved. |
| Pathfinder | A panel that is used to combine paths, subtract shapes, and divide objects. |
| Pattern Swatch | A color swatch created from a pattern. |
| Pattern Tile Tool | A tool located in the Pattern Options panel which is used to modify the spacing between pattern tiles when modifying a pattern. |
| Photoshop Effects | A list of raster-based effects. |
| Pixel | A square that holds the information for one color. |
| Preset | Patterns or custom objects that may be saved and reused throughout a project. |
| Process Color | A type of color swatch used throughout the process of building artwork. Process colors are not global by default, but the global option can be turned on. |
| Project Management | Management of project activities to meet the project objectives. |
| Proximity | A design principle that defines the spatial relationship between objects. |
| Pucker Tool | A tool used to indent parts of an object. |
| Raster | An image type that uses pixels to create an image. |
| Reflect Tool | A tool used to reflect an object across a set reference point. |
| Repetition | A design principle that defines the use of an object over and over in a repetitive fashion. |
| Reshape Tool | A tool used to reshape an object or a specific section of an object. |
| Resolution | The amount of detail an image holds. Resolution refers to how many pixels are contained within the image. |
| Rotate Tool | A tool used to first set a reference point and then rotate an object around that reference point. |
| Round Trip | An editing process in which a user may edit the source file in Illustrator CC before it is embedded as an actual Illustrator file. |
| SVG | Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is a newer vector-based file format that combines vector image information with what is essentially code. Used in web design, imagery in this format can be scaled and rendered to a desired size and maintain its quality. |
| Scale Tool | A tool designed to help the user easily enlarge or reduce the size of an object. |
| Scallop Tool | A tool used to incorporate scallop-like shapes into an object. |
| Shape | A basic principle in art. Triangles and squares are examples of shapes. They are two dimensional by nature. |
| Shape Builder Tool | A tool that instinctively shows the user parts of the selected art that can be merged to form new shapes when the user hovers over such areas with the pointer. |

| Vector Tiles | Tiles that are separated by grooves which are extended as far as the image may be extended. |
| Visual Hierarchy | The order in which our eyes perceive things. |

| Warp Tool | A tool used to warp an object by conforming to the movement of the cursor. |
| White Space | The area that exists around the elements of a composition. It can be white or just a space that is not filled with a specific element. |
