9-Slice ScalingA feature which can be applied to symbols so they are divided into nine slices on a grid. Each slice is scaled independently and corners are not scaled.
AIA file format that is native to Adobe Illustrator. It is the default file format for documents in Adobe Illustrator.

Color DepthA term that defines the number of bits that are used to create each color of an image. This term is also known as bit depth.
Color ModeThe mode used to define which colors are used to comprise an image or composition. The two most common color modes are RGB and CMYK.
Color TheoryThe theory surrounding colors. It is at its core the learning of the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.
ContrastA term used to define contrast in art using color, design, or other subject matter that contrast or are opposite of each other.
Control HandlesHandles on an anchor point used to control the Bezier curve.
Control PanelA software utility that contains most of the settings for personalizing a system, such as display, power management, and adding or deleting users.
CopyrightProtection for intellectual property.
Crop MarksMarks that assist the user in cutting the image after printing.
Crystallize ToolA tool used to add jagged, crystal-like features to an object.

ExportThe action of saving a file in an alternate format. A file can be exported through both the Save As command and the Export command depending on the desired format.
Extrude & BevelA panel that may be used to provide depth to a 2D object to give it a 3D effect, or to control elements of a 3D object.
Fair UseA part of U.S. Copyright Law which is a doctrine that indicates that excerpts of copyrighted materials may be used under certain circumstances such as news reports, teaching, and research.
FillThe inside part of a shape.
FormA basic principle in art that defines objects like spheres, cubes, and pyramids. They are three dimensional by nature.
Free Transform ToolA tool used to rotate, resize, or distort an object.
GIFGraphic interchange format (GIF) is a common image file format that has the ability to have frames used in animation.
GamutA digital art term used to refer to color, most commonly denoting a specific set of colors or a color range.

JPEGJoint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG/JPG) is a common image file format that is used for web images. It can be compressed in many ways and still maintain a good quality.
KerningAltering the distance between two characters. Kerning can make text more readable by increasing or decreasing the spacing.
Kuler PanelA panel in Illustrator CC which links with the user's online Adobe Kuler account to display custom swatches.
Layer Stacking OrderThe rule wherein objects on a layer will appear above objects on lower layers.
LayersThe editing/compositing areas that behave as transparent sheets on top of an image and enable the editing of specific elements of an image without affecting any other areas.

ResolutionThe amount of detail an image holds. Resolution refers to how many pixels are contained within the image.
Rotate ToolA tool used to first set a reference point and then rotate an object around that reference point.
Round TripAn editing process in which a user may edit the source file in Illustrator CC before it is embedded as an actual Illustrator file.
SVGScalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is a newer vector-based file format that combines vector image information with what is essentially code. Used in web design, imagery in this format can be scaled and rendered to a desired size and maintain its quality.
Scale ToolA tool designed to help the user easily enlarge or reduce the size of an object.
