| Latitude/Parallels- | run parallel with the equator; always goes first (15n 30w); is either North or South; lines go left to right or east to west; measures distance North or South of the equator (divides the earth, always 0 degrees |
| Longitude/Meridians- | runs pole to pole; always goes lalst (15, 30w); is either East or West; lines run from top to bottom (N - S); measures distance east or west of Prime Meridian (divides earth into E & W, imaginary line through Greenwich, England, 0 degrees) |
| Maps/Catographers- | mapmakers, map projections, ways of showing the earth on a flat page (peeling an orange), distortion because the earth is round and maps are flat, the maps change what the earth really looks like, the size and shape are usually effected (Mercater & Robinson Projections) |
| Physical Maps- | maps that show things mostly created by nature, shows relief, the changing elevation of land |
| Special Purpose Maps- | maps designed to display very specific info. (climate, vegetation, language, religion, etc.) |
| Gazetteer- | a dictionary index of geopraphical names & places |
