Rock Texture Practice with Pictures (To be used with the presentations from the computer lab.)

Use this to practice the rock textures learned in Mr. Brown's Computer Presentations. *NOTE: Some pictures may be hard to see, so use this only as practice.This activity may take a few minutes to load depending on your computer's speed.

This is BASALT a fine grained (APHANITIC) rock.
This is COQUINA an ORGANIC SEDIMENTARY textured rock.
This is GNEISS, a FOLIATED metamorphic rock.
This is GRANITE a PHANERITIC rock with visible crystals. It is an INTRUSIVE IGNEOUS rock.
While the outside of this is smooth and weathered, the internal structure is PHANERITIC. This piece of GRANITE was probably at the beach.
This piece of MARBLE shows an UNFOLIATED metamorphic rock.
This piece of OBSIDIAN shows a GLASSY texture.
While it may be hard at first to see due to te thousands of tiny vessicles in this piece of PUMICE, when looked at under magnification one can see it has a GLASSY texture.
This piece of SCORIA has large VESSICLES that are the result of gas bubbles in the lava from which it formed.
