| x-height | the height of the lowercase letter x in a particular typeface, used as a measure of the height of the main body of all lowercase letters in that typeface |
| ascender | the part of a lowercase letter, for example, h, d, or b, that projects above the body of the letter. |
| point size | the size of text in a document |
| serif | Small line or stroke that appears at the ends of characters in serif typefaces |
| centered | positioned at the same distance from all edges or opposite sides |
| left aligned | to place something in a line, or in an orderly spatial relationship on the left side |
| right aligned | to place something in a line, or in an orderly spatial relationship on the right side |
| justified | to adjust the lengths of spaces between and within words in text in order to make both the left and right margins align |
| tab | a key on a computer keyboard, that advances the next character to a predetermined position used to align lines or columns |
| indents | to start a line or row some distance in from the margin |
| bullet | a large printed dot or other character such as a circle or diamond that appears in front of each item in a list of items in a printed list |
| leading | (rhymes with wedding) the vertical space that appears between two lines of text, measured in points from the baseline of one line to the baseline of the next line. |
| kerning | the addition or removal of space between individual characters in a piece of typeset text to improve its appearance or alter its fit |
| pull quotes | is an excerpt from the main article to highlight the ideas or to attract readers. It can be set off with a box or graphic. |
| hanging indents | an indenting of all the lines of a paragraph of text except the first |
| san serif | A French term meaning without serif. Typefaces in which the characters lack serifs |
