Monochromatic Color SchemeUses values and intensities of just one color
Complementary Color SchemeColors directly opposite of each other on a color wheel
Split-Complementary Color SchemeOne color used with two colors on each side of its direct complement
Analogous Color SchemeColors side by side on the color wheel
Triadic Color SchemeThree colors equally distant from each other on the color wheel
Warm ColorsRed, orange, yellow, colors of fire
Cool ColorsBlue, green and violet, colors of water
Vertical LineMake someone appear tall and skinny- up and down

Symmetrical BalanceEverything is balanced- divided into equal parts
Asymmetrical BalanceWhen a garment is divided into unequal parts
ProportionHow separate parts of a garment relate to each other and to the whole in size

RhythmCreated when one or more elements are used repeatedly to create a feeling or organized movement
RepetitionA pattern repeats, as with rows of stripes
RadiationLines and patterns flow from a central location
GradationA pattern changes gradually, size or color – small to large
HarmonyWay of combining similar elements to accent similarities
