| Shotgun Microphone | This device sits on top of the camera and powers the microphone. You must make sure that there are +48v of power running to this piece of equipment to power it. |
| Audio Recorder (Zoom H5) | This device is sitting on top of the camera and controls the audio levels for the sound going into the camera. |
| Aux 1/8" Audio Cable | This connects the audio recorder to the camera, sending the audio signal into the camera for recording. If this is unplugged your film will be silent. |
| Battery | This is located on the bottom of the camera and may be accessed by carefully flipping open the hatch. |
| Record Button | This is the button you press to capture your scene and/or subject. It is labeled with a red dot on the back of the camera, to the upper, right corner of the LCD screen. |
| LCD Screen | This stands for Liquid Crystal Display; it flips out from the side of the camera and is where you can see exactly what your camera is capturing. |
| Auto/Manual Focus | This camera element gives users the option to adjust what in the frame is clear or blurry. To adjust this, the camera has a small ring at the front of the lens. |
| Zoom In/Out | This is how you change the focal length on your camera, making the lens wide angle or telephoto. |
| Memory Card | This camera uses a SD card, which may be accessed by carefully opening the small hatch on the right-hand side of the camera. Press on the card and it will pop out. |
| Lens | This is a barrel that has glass in it; the glass works to shape light entering the camera and brings everything into focus on the digital sensor. |
| DSLR | The name (and style) of our camera in shop; this is a camera that has a reflexive mirror that pops up to reveal the shutter when taking a picture or recording video. |
| Tripod Plate | A small element that screws to the bottom of the camera and connects to the tripod for filming stationary shots. |
| Mode Dial | The small ciricle on top of the camera that lists "M, P, Av, Tv..." This piece controls the overall setting the camera shoots in. |
| Menu | This button is on the upper left-hand corner of the camera and it is the master key to changing all the settings inside the camera. |
| Playback | A small button on the bottom of the camera, to the right of the LCD screen. This is what you press to watch back your clips or images. |
| "Q" | Press this button to view a simplified version of your menu options. These are only options that directly impact the image/footage. |
| Tripod | The most common device used to hold up a camera for a film shoot. This device has three legs and a mounting plate where the camera attaches. |
| Sensor | The element inside the camera that makes this a digital camera as opposed to a film camera; this is covered in pixels, which are light sensitive dots that soak up light information when a picture is taken. |
