Document Window | A portion of a document on the screen. |

Ribbon | Located near the top of the Word window, is the control center in Word. It provides easy, central access to the tasks you perform while creating a document. It consists of tabs, groups, and commands. Each tab surrounds a collection of groups, and each group contains related commands. |

Dialog Box Launcher | A small arrow that when clicked, displays a dialog box or a task pane with additional options for the groups. |
Task Pane | A window that can remain open and visible while you work in the document. |
Mini toolbar | Appears automatically based on tasks you perform, contains commands related to changing the appearance of text in a document. |
Shortcut Menu | Appears when you right-click an object. |
Quick Access Toolbar | Located by default above the Ribbon, provides easy access to frequently used commands. |
Office Button | A central location for managing and sharing documents. |
Menu | Contains a list of commands. |
Submenu | A list of additional commands associated with the selected command. |
Key Tip Badge | Press ALT key on keyboard to display. Used for certain commands. |
Key Tip | Displayed code letter. Used to select a command using the keyboard. |
Formatting Mark | A character that Word displays on the screen but is not visible on a printed document. |
Wordwrap | Allows you to type words in a paragraph continually without pressing the ENTER key at the end of each line. |

File Name | The name assigned to a file when it is saved. |
Paragraph Formatting | The process of changing the appearance of a paragraph. |
Character Formatting | The process of changing the way characters appear on the screen and in print. |
Font | Typeface defines the appearance and shape of the letters, numbers, and special characters. |
Font Size | The size of the characters and is determined by a measurement system called points. |

Style | A named group of formatting characteristics, including form and font six. |

Font Set | Defines formats for two fonts - one for headings and another for body text. |
Scroll | To move to the top or bottom portion of the document off the screen. |
Resizing | Includes both enlarging and reducing the size of a graphic. |
Document Properties | Helps you organize and identify your files; details about a file. |
Metadata | Document Properties that include project author, title, or subject. |
Keywords | Words or phrases that further describe the document. |
Standard Properties | Associated with all Microsoft Office Documents and include author, title, and subject. |
Automatically updated Properties | File system properties such as the date you create or change a file, and statistics such as the file size. |
