Wander | A resident with dementia walks around aimlessly (with no purpose) in an area and then walks away...the person may do this because they are anxious, looking for someone/something, or may not like where she is. |
Pace | To walk back and forth in one area, usually if you are waiting or worried about something. |
Aimlessly | To do something without a purpose |
Rummage | To search for something by moving things around. A person with dementia may go into other people's drawers and closets. |
Hoard | To take items and hide them in a secret place |
Catastrophic reaction | A person tends to overreact to a situation. Has a sudden, extreme reaction. |
Sundowning | Occurs during the evening/night. Alzheimer's/Dementia patients can become confused and irritable |
Reality orientation | Maintaining awareness of person, place, and time |

Scold | To angrily tell someone that he/she did something wrong |
Distraction | Something that takes a person’s attention away from what he/she is doing right now. |
