URC Terminology

A list of common URC Abbreviations and their definitions -- this one is tougher than just the abbreviations. Go for it! : )

AB
RPLRecurrent pregnancy loss; a common diagnosis used for pts who have had multiple miscarriages (2-3 or more)
EMBEndometrial biopsy which is generally done for medical purposes & will be billed to insurance.
Pre-Op VisitA visit done for patients that are planning to move forward with some form of surgical procedure.
IVF ClassA nurse-led class for patients to review the process of IVF (in-vitro fertilization)
SISA saline-infused sonohysterogram sometimes performed in place of the HSG (hysterosalpingogram) to study the contours of the uterus
HSGA hysterosalpingogram which is a diagnostic exam of the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes utilizing the inserting iodine into the fallopian tubes.
CDA cycle day is how many days since the first day of their last period.
SDRefers to how many days a patient has been on medication when a patient is going thru a COH/IUI, IVF or FET
IUIA fertility treatment that involves placing sperm inside a woman's uterus to facilitate fertilization. The goal of IUI is to increase the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes and subsequently increase the chance of fertilization.
CC -- ClomidClomid is a medication generally used when patient is doing IUI cycles.
LET -- LetrozoleLetrozole is a medication used for patients doing IUI cycles.
ART -- Artificial Reproductive Technologies ScreeningA technology used to treat infertility. It includes fertility treatments that handle both a woman's egg and a man's sperm. It works by removing eggs from a woman's body. The eggs are then mixed with sperm to make embryos.
IVF -- In-Vitro FertilizationA medical procedure whereby an egg is fertilized by sperm in a test tube or elsewhere outside the body.
FET -- Frozen Embryo TransferA cycle where a frozen embryo from a previous fresh IVF cycle is thawed and transferred back into a woman's uterus. This means you won't have to undergo another cycle of hormone stimulation and an egg collection
PGD -- Preimplantation Genetic DiagnosisPreimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) refers specifically to when one or both genetic parents has a known genetic abnormality and testing is performed on an embryo to determine if it also carries a genetic abnormality.
Preimplementation Genetic ScreeningPGS is a screening used to determine whether the cells in an embryo contain the normal number of chromosomes, which is 46.
ICSI -- Intracytoplasmic sperm injectionIntracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) involves injecting a single sperm into an egg that has been removed from a woman's ovary.
EOB US -- Early OB ultrasoundAn US done for patients who have had a positive pregnancy test and are coming in to verify a viable pregnancy and heartbeat.
Failed Cycle Follow-upA follow-up appt scheduled if a patient's IVF or FET cycle did not end in pregnancy. This type of follow-up appointment is NOT included in the IUI package.
