A | B |
Cell Wall | This structure is only found in plant cells. It gives the plant cells support and allows plants to grow tall |
Cell Membrane | This structure is found in both plant and animal cells. It allows materials to pass in and out of the cell |
Nucleus | This structure controls all of the activities going on within the cell. It is the "brain of the cell". Contains DNA |
Nuclear Membrane | This structure protects the nucleus |
Nucleolus | This structure makes ribosomes for the cell. It is a small, dark oval found within the nucleus |
Cytoplasm | This is what all of the organelles float in |
Endoplasmic Reticulum | This structure carries proteins from one part to another |
Ribosome | This structure is sometimes attached to the ER, where proteins are made |
Mitochondria | This is the powerhouse of the cell. It supplies the cell with all of the energy it needs |
Vacuole | This structure stores food and water for the cell. It is found in both plant and animal cells, but is much larger in plant cells |
Lysosome | This structure is mainly only found in animal cells. It cleans up the cell by digesting old cell parts or digesting entire cells that are injured |
Chloroplasts | These structures are only found in plants. They contain chlorophyll |
Organelles | This is the term given to all of the structure within a cell |
Mutlicellular | organism containing more than one cell |
Unicellular | Organism containing only one cell |
