CompressionHow an image is saved in order to reduce the size
LosslessNo data is lost during compression
LossySome data is lost during compression
PortabilityEase at which files are opened, modified & viewed on computers using different operating systems, software & browsers
TransparencyThe background without having a white box around it
Raster or Bitmap GraphicsImages composed of grids of pixels that have a fixed resolution (# of pixels per inch) & cannot be resized without losing image quality. Generally edited in paint programs.
GIF (Graphics Interchange Format)Commonly used for clip art, animations, icons, logos, simple diagrams, line drawings, graphics with large blocks of single color, graphics with transparent areas, graphics displayed on computer screens.

DPI (Dots per inch)Dots of ink or toner in a printed image, the lower the DPI the less detailed the image
Aspect RatioRelationship of an objects width to its height
CloningCopying part of an image & using it to replace unwanted parts of the image
