| liminal | A threshold experience. The experience of being between one significant moment and another. |
| liturgical year | The Church's annual cycle of religious feasts and seasons that forms the context for the Church's worship. |
| liturgy | The Church's official, public, communal prayer. It is God's work in which we participate. |
| ritual | The established form of the words and actions for a ceremony that is repeated often. The actions have symbolic meaning. |
| prayer | Lifting up of one's mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God. |
| redemption | Means "to buy back" and refers to Christ's deliverance of all Christians from sin. |
| sacrament | The efficacious and visible sign of God's grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church by which divine life is dispensed to us. |
| sacramentals | Sacred signs that bear some resemblance to the Sacraments but don't carry the guarantee of God's grace that is associated with the sacraments. (examples: holy water or crucifix.) |
| sanctifying grace | Grace that heals our human nature wounded by sin and restores us to friendship with God. |
| sign | A word, object or gesture that refers to a specific thing or action. In reference to the sacraments, it is the same as symbol. |
| symbol | An object or action that points us to another reality. It leads us to consider a deeper mystery. |
| grace | The free gift of God's loving and active presence in the world and in our lives. |
| efficacious | The power something holds to cause a desired effect. The sacraments bring about the spiritual reality they signify. |

| meditation | an expression of prayer that uses our thoughts and imagination to get in touch with God |
| contemplation | a form of wordless prayer in which one is fully focused on the presence of God |
| prayers of intercession | this form of petition prayer asks God for help on the behalf of others |
| Tradition | from the Latin "to hand on" especially the process of passing on the Gospel message |
| required disposition | an attitude of faith for the Sacraments to bear fruit |
| Ambo | The table of the Word. This is where the Word of God is proclaimed |
| Altar | The table of the Eucharist. This table is a symbol of gathering, sharing, and sacrifice. |
| Reconciliation Room | Where we meet God in the person of the priest who symbolizes God and the community whom we’ve hurt. |
| Tabernacle | This holds the consecrated hosts, the Real Presence or Blessed Sacrament of God to us |
| Baptismal Font | This symbolizes new life and cleansing. It contains holy water, which is a symbol of Baptism. |
