ASTEROIDEA, One of the largest and most familiar classes within the Phylum Echinodermata. The animals, commonly known as sea stars or starfishes.
ECHINOIDEA, The class that belongs to the phylum Echinodermata. Ex. the sand dollars, and sea urchins.
HOLOTHUROIDEA, A class of echinoderms that comprises the sea cucumbers.
REGENERATION, The process by which some organisms replace or restore lost or amputated body parts.
FISSION, The process where an individual divides into parts due to changes in the strength of connective tissue of the body wall.
DETRITIVORE, Any organism that feeds on detritus or organic waste. Ex. sea cucumbers.
HERBIVORE, Any organism that eats only plants.
PREDATOR, An organism that kills and eats another organism, its prey.
FILTER FEEDER, An animal that obtains its food by filtering organic matter or minute organisms from a current of water that passes through some part of its system.
TUBE FEET, One of the numerous external, fluid-filled muscular tubes of an echinoderm, such as a starfish or sea urchin, serving as organs of locomotion, food handling, and respiration.
