Sexual harassment | Intimidation, bullying, or coercion of a sexual nature, or the unwelcome or inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favors. |
Prenuptial Agreement | A contract made between two people before they get married agreeing on the distribution of their assets if they were to get divorced or one died. |
Patents | Set of exclusive rights granted by the government to an inventory for a limited period of time in exchange for a public disclosure of an invention. |
OSHA | Occupational Safety and Health Administration, to ensure safe and healthful working conditions of employees by setting and enforcing standards and providing training, outreach, education and assistance. |
Negligence | Failure to act with a duty of care that a reasonable person would have used in a similar situation. Carelessness. |
Medical malpractice | Professional negligence through an act or omission by a health care provider in which care is provided deviates from accepted standards of practice in the medical community and causes injury or death to the patient. |
Foreclosure | A bank selling or repossessing a parcel of real property (real estate/home) after the owner has failed to comply with an agreement between the lender and borrower called a "mortgage." Foreclosure typically results from not paying a mortgage. |
Divorce | Final termination of a marital union, cancelling the legal duties and responsibilities of marriage and dissolving the bonds of matrimony between the parties. |
Discrimination | An action against a person based on the group, class, or category to which that person is a part of. |
Defamation | Communicating something as fact about a person or business that is actually false and (can result in) causing a negative image of that person or business. |
Copyrights | Set of exclusive rights granted to the author or creator of an original work, including the right to copy, distribute and adapt the work. (©) |
Contracts | Legally binding agreement between two or more parties which establishes promises to do or not do something. |
Child custody | Legal terms which are sometimes used to describe the legal and practical relationship between a parent and his or her child, such as the right of the parent to make decisions for the child, and the parent's duty to care for the child. |
Bankruptcy | A legally declared inability of an individual or organization to pay its creditors (bills owed). |
Adoption | process whereby a person assumes the parenting for another who is not kin (family) and, in so doing, permanently transfers all rights and responsibilities from the original parent or parents. |
