| oasis | small area in a desert where water and vegetation are found |
| ocean | one of the four major bodies of salt water that surround the continents |
| peninsula | body of land jutting out into an ocean or lake that is surrounded by water on three sides |
| plain | area of level land, usually at low elevation and often covered with grasses |
| plateau | A large area of flat land elevated high above sea level |
| river | large natural stream of water that runs through the land |
| sea | large body of water completely or partly surrounded by land |
| strait | a narrow body of water that connects two larger bodies of water |
| valley | an area of low land between hills or mountains |
| volcano | mountain or hill created as liquid rock and ash erupt from inside the earth |
| swamp, marsh | wet area where the water table is at or near the surface |
| sinkhole | When the ground collapses into a cavern in the ground, especially in limestone bedrock, caused by water erosion. Sometimes caused by draining the aquifer, or fresh groundwater, too low. |
| desert | An extremely dry area with little water and few plants |
| mountain | A landform with high elevation and high relief. |

| sand bar | A long underwater ridge formed by sand deposited offshore |

| oxbow lake | a crescent-shaped lake (often temporary) that is formed when a meander of a river is cut off from the main channel |
