Simple MachineA machine with few or no moving parts that is used to make work easie. The six simple machines are the inclined plane, the wedge, the lever, the wheel and axle, the screw, and the pulley.
Inclined Planea flat, sloped or slanted surface along which a force moves an object to a different height
WedgeA device that is thick at one end and tapers to a thin edge at the other end. Usually used to separate something.
WorkForce put on an object that causes it to move.
ScrewAn inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder. Used to hold things together
Wheel & AxleThis simple machine rolls and allows something to move.
Levera simple machine that consists of a bar that pivots at a fixed point called a fulcrum
PulleyA simple machine that consists of a grooved wheel with a rope or cable wrapped around it. It is used to multiply a force by pulling a rope or cable.
FulcrumThe steady point on which the plank or rod of a lever rests
Effort Forcethe force YOU apply to a lever or other machine
Resistance ForceThe force the LEVER (or other machine) applies
LoadThe object being lifted or moved
Complex MachineAnything that combines two or more simple machines. Example: a bike
