| Alignment | The horizontal position of text within the width of a line or between tab stops. |

| Cut | To remove selected text or a graphic from a document so you can paste it to another place in the document. |

| Dialog Box | A box that displays the available command options for you to review or change. |
| Document Window | A rectangular portion of the screen in which you view and edit a document. |
| Drag | To hold down the mouse button while moving the mouse. |
| Drive | The mechanism in a computer that reads a disk to retrieve and store information |
| Edit | To add, delete, or change text and graphics. |
| File | A document that has been created, then saved, under a unique file name. |
| Font | A name given to a collection of characters(letters, numerals, symbols, and punctuation marks) with a specific design. |
| Font Size | Refers to Physical size of text, measured in points (pts). |
| Font Style | Refers to whether text appears as bold, italicized, or underlined, or any combinations of these formats. |
| Format | The way text appears on a page. |
| Formatting Toolbar | A bar that contains buttons and options for the most frequently used formatting commands. |
| Graphics | A picture, chart, or drawing in a document. |
| Hanging Indent | A paragraph format in which the first line of a paragraph starts farther left than the subsequent lines. |
| Horizontal Ruler | A graphical bar displayed across the top of the document window in all views. |
| Indent | The distance between text boundaries and page margins. |
| Insertion Point | Vertical blinking line on the Word screen that shows your current location and where text and graphics are inserted. |
| Line Spacing | The height of a line of text, including extra spacing. |
| Menu Bar | Lists the names of the menus that contain Word commands. |
| Options | The choices available in a dialog box. |
| Page Layout View | A view of a document as it will appear when you print it. |
| Paste | To insert cut or copied text into a document from the temporary storage area called the Clipboard. |
| Redo | The ability to repeat reversed action or changes, usually editing or formatting actions. |
| Resize | The ability to change the size of and object (such as framed text or a graphic) by dragging sizing handles located on the sides and corner of the selected object. |
| Scroll Bar | A graphical device for moving vertically and horizontally through a document with a mouse. |
| Screen Tip | When you move the pointer over a button, the name of the button is displayed and a brief description of its function appears in the status bar. |
| Standard Toolbar | The topmost row of buttons that perform some of the most frequently used commands. |
| Status Bar | This bar is located at the bottom of the Word Window, it displays the current page number and section number, the total number of pages in the document, and the vertical position (in inches) of the insertion point. |
| Tab Stop | A measured position for placing and aligning text at a specific place on a line. |
| Title Bar | The horizontal bar at the top of a window that displays the name of the document or application that appears in the window. |
| Undo | The ability to reverse previous action or changes, usually editing or formatting actions |
| Vertical Alignment | The placement of text on a page in relation to the top, bottom, or center of the page. |
| Vertical Ruler | A graphical bar displayed at the left edge of the document window in the page layout and print preview views. |
| Window | A rectangular area on the screen in which you view and work on documents. |
| Wordwrap | Automatic placement of a word on the next line. |
