Stressis the reaction of the body and mind to everyday challenges and demands.
Normal stresshappens quick like running late for work.
Chronic stressmore dangerous. It builds slowly for days. Meeting a deadline, prepping for a final exam.
PERCEPTIONis the act of becoming aware through the senses.
Positive stresscan motivate you, getting you to work harder, try harder, to meet an upcoming deadline.
Negative stressinterferes with your ability to perform. Distraction, feeling overwhelmed, impatient, frustrated, and anger are signs of stress influencing your behavior.

STRESS RESPONSEis how your body automatically reacts when you perceive something to be dangerous, difficult, or painful.
STRESS RESPONSEnervous and endocrine systems react to the stressor involuntarily.
3 stages ALARMmind and body go on high alert, brain sends signal to adrenal gland to release the hormones adrenaline and epinephrine. “FIGHT OR FLIGHT” response. Prepares your body either to defend itself or flee. Extra blood is pumped, extra oxygen sent to muscles.
3 stages RESISTANCEif stressor continues, body adapts to the stressor, body performs at higher level with more endurance for short period.
3 stages FATIGUEwith prolonged stress, the body can’t keep up with the higher levels of alertness and loses ability to adapt. You wear out and lose ability to manage other stressors.
PSYCHOSOMATIC RESPONSEis a physical reaction that results from stress rather than from an injury or illness
