The Japanese in Korea would have to surrender to the Allies. The Russians were to accept the Japanese surrender north of the 38 degree parallel. The U.S. was to accept the Japanese surrender south of the 38 degree parallel. | Berlin Air Lift | When France, Britain, and the U.S. joined their German zones to form one country, the Soviet Union reacted with a blockade on the Allied controlled parts of Berlin. All roads, railroads, and river traffic was stopped. The allies responded by sending supplies in by planes. Planes were landing every 3 minutes. More supplies came in during the blockade than before it. After a year Stalin called it off. By that time, the three western zones had joined to form West Germany which was a democratic country, and the Soviet Union formed the Communist East Germany. |
