| Well | Can be useful if the enemy tried to starve you out of the castle |
| Dungeon | Imprisons people and stores food |
| Armoury | Where weapons are made and stored |
| Garderobe | Medieval toilets |
| Hastings | After this battle, many castles were built |

| Keep | The tower on top of the mound |
| Motte | A mound or hill on an early castle |
| Palisade | The wooden fence on an early castle |
| Bailey | The village on an early castle |
| Portcullis | A strong metal gate |
| Arrow loops | The holes in the walls which allowed defenders to shoot without getting hit |
| Tower of London | The Square Keep castle where many royal prisoners were kept |
