| Ruler guides | Nonprinting horizontal and vertical lines used for aligning text and graphics on the document screen |
| Drag-place | Dragging to create a precise placement area for text or a graphic |
| Story | A single unit of text |
| I-beam | Icon used for highlighting text or to click an insertion point |
| Text cursor | A blinking vertical line or other icon showing the location of the insertion point |
| Flush left | Text alignment in which text is even at the left and ragged at the right |
| Text block | A unit of text bounded by windowshades containing all or part of a story |
| Windowshades | Lines with handles appearing at the top and bottom of a text block when it is selected |
